F77 'No Date' Smoke

$1,260.00

Nivada Grenchen is launching nothing short of a democratic revolution. While ‘sport chic’ steel watches with integrated bracelets are either waiting list-only or breaking price records at auctions, the F77 is a Swiss Made reissue of a 1977 classic that is uncompromising on design and finish quality

F77: A SLEEPING BEAUTY AWAKENS
Available only with a 316L stainless steel bracelet, the F77 is reissued in 37mm to remain faithful to the original piece. It is equipped with a ‘carbon effect’ basket weave dial with substantial baton indexes. The baton-style hour and minute echo the clean sleekness of the steel case. At 12.65mm makes it an extremely fine piece to wear. Four references open the ball with two dial colors: black or blue dial with or without date window. The F77 is powered by a Swiss made SOPROD P024 automatic movement, available with or without date (without ghost position), with a power reserve of 38 hours.

Nivada was established in Grenchen, Switzerland as early as 1879, but their official foundation is accepted as 1926. In 1939, Nivada formed a business partnership with the New York-based Croton Watch Company, allowing them to import and distribute Nivada watches across the United States and North America. This partnership proved successful and lasted up until the 'quartz crisis'.

During the 1960s and 70s, Movado pursued legal action against Nivada Grenchen, citing that their name sounded too phonetically similar to Movado. Consequently, Nivada Grenchen was prohibited from using the Nivada name in the US Market. As a result of this prohibition, Nivada Grenchen tapped into its distribution partnerships and continued to release watches in the US under various brand names, including Croton Nivada, Croton Nivada Grenchen, and simply Croton.

Modern Nivada Grenchen displays a multitude of diverse emblems and dial signatures across its various models, paying homage to the varied logos and stamps that its original watches carried over the decades.

In 2018, Guillaume Laidet and Remi Chabrat, two watchmaking entrepreneurs, determined to revive the Nivada brand with its original heritage. In 2019, they obtained the license to use the Nivada Grenchen copyright and have since produced faithful reissues and new models based on the rich historical catalog and original vintage discoveries.
