ABOUT THE WATCH

The Rolex Day-Date is among the most influential and classic watches of all time, and if you have kept up with popular culture or culture since 1956, it's not a claim that we have to justify. Basically, if you haven't lived under a rock for the last 60 years, chances are you have heard the term "Day-Date" or "President."

The Day-Date found its footing sometime around the 1960s. During this period, the watch developed its reputation as the timekeeper of choice for world leaders and the Wall Street elite. John F. Kennedy was famously gifted a Rolex Day-Date from Marilyn Monroe but never wore it publicly. The title of the first President to sport the Day-Date on the President bracelet goes to Lyndon B. Johnson. With him, the nickname "Rolex President" cemented itself in history.

This Day-Date 118239 is a particularly fine specimen. Day-Dates are most commonly associated with the more flashy 18k yellow gold flavor. However, this piece does not give up any of its star power with its addition of an equally punchy factory cherry dial.

This setup of a cherry dial on a white gold case comes in 3 variations, one being a leather strap option, an oyster bracelet, and my favorite of the bunch, the president bracelet configuration.

CONDITION REPORT

This example is in "excellent" condition, meaning there are little to no signs of regular wear on the case and bracelet. The bracelet is tight, with no stretch between the links.

This Day-Date Ref. 118239 is a Y serial circa 2002-2003. It was recently serviced in April of 2022 at the Rolex factory. This watch is presented with a box and a 2-year Rolex service warranty card.

THE BRAND

Rolex was founded in 1905 in London by Hans Wilsdorf and his brother-in-law, Alfred Davis. The company began as a modest endeavor, assembling watches from imported parts. However, Rolex soon grew into an internationally renowned brand through the great business strides that the young Hans made.

The Rolex name is inextricably linked to the ubiquity of the modern wristwatch, from humble beginnings to epitomizing achievement and prestige. The crown has transcended film, literature, fashion, culture, and history, worn by record-breakers, presidents, and fictional characters.
