Toric Automatique Ref. C00722
This Parmigiani Toric Automatique is part of the very first watches presented by the newly established Parmigiani Fleurier as part of their 1998 catalog offerings. Quintessentially Parmigiani, the Automatique is an excellent addition to any collection focusing on neo-vintage independent watchmaking but prefers the size of a more modern offering in 40mm.
The Toric collection cut precise design codes that became instantly recognizable and are still referenced today. Torics all feature several consistent design elements throughout each model, such as a stepped knurled bezel and the javelin-style hands. The figure and shape of the case were inspired by the curvature of the Golden Ratio, while the intricate bezel fixtures and knurling drew from “Doric” columns seen in classical Greek and Roman architecture.
Subtle details like engine-turning and delicate knurling are a treat for aficionados who appreciate traditional manufacturing techniques, which are rarely done by large-scale manufacturers. These practices give the Toric Automatique texture, depth, contrast, and the right amount of nuance to make it stand out in the PF historical catalog.

The Parmigiani Fleurier brand - a watch-making adventure that transcends the mundane - was created in Fleurier in 1996 and was guided by the passion of a man who remained faithful to the very essence of the watchmaker. Michel Parmigiani, master horologist, renowned restorer, and talented creator of mechanical time-keepers, dedicates his knowledge, which has been enriched by past and present teachings, to the benefit of the brand.
The Sandoz Family Foundation, who had tasked a young Michel Parmigiani to lead the restoration of their horological artifact collection, became interested in bringing Parmigiani's masterful work to the consumer market. In 1996, with the backing of the Sandoz Foundation, Parmigiani Fleurier was able to fit out its manufacturing workshops with the means to produce exceptionally high-quality goods. In less than 10 years, it achieved near complete vertical integration, and the industrial equipment deployed constitutes one of the rarest and most complete manufacturing workshops in Switzerland. The very essence of haute horology, such as attention to detail or the beauty of the embellishment of a simple or highly complicated movement, is the subject of great attention at Parmigiani Fleurier and is the reason for its international recognition.
