THE BRAND
In 1927, Dr. Ernst Kurtz revived the watchmaking industry in Glashütte, Germany, by consolidating the city's production into two companies and developing the first wristwatch in the area. To address the concern regarding the transition from the pocket watch to the wristwatch, he named the brand Tutima which is derived from the Latin word "tutus," meaning "safe, protected"
In 1939, Kurtz led the production of the famous Tutima Flieger Chronograph featuring a highly technical, durable, and unique movement called UROFA Caliber 59. This two-button chronograph was the first to boast additional timing and a quick-stop and restart the device; today called flyback. This wristwatch set aesthetic and functional benchmarks and today remains an industry milestone. The Classic Chronograph remains in the collection and has evolved in its almost 80-year history.
