THE WATCH

The Kalparisma Nova Galaxy is an elegant and sleek timepiece with a unique aventurine dial and diamond frame.

Aventurine glass was invented by mistake in Murano (Venice), Italy, in the 19th century when an artisan glass blower accidentally let drop copper particles into the molten glass. The result was this fine material, whose name derives from the Italian expression “all’avventura” – i.e., “by accident.”

The Kalparisma family has a specific characteristic: the small seconds at 6 o’clock, with a star that spins around every minute. Both a decoration and a horological complication, the “Nova” star was like many details in PF watches, inspired by a pocket watch in Maurice-Yves Sandoz’ collection, which was restored at Parmigiani Fleurier’s atelier workshop.

ABOUT THIS BRAND

Founded only 25 years ago, Parmigiani Fleurier is a young and notably independent brand that draws its expertise from the art of restoration. This unique combination is at the heart of its timepieces, with a contemporary style for enthusiasts seeking to combine modernity and high technical competency. To adhere to its own principles and perfect each timepiece produced, the brand created its own watch collections where more than 30 in-house calibers have been developed. More recently, Parmigiani has found mainstream success through their Tonda GT, and Tonda PF collections which have become notable contenders in the independent sports watch segment.

The Parmigiani Fleurier brand - a watch-making adventure that transcends the mundane - was created in Fleurier in 1996 and was guided by the passion of a man who remained faithful to the very essence of the watchmaker. Michel Parmigiani, master horologist, renowned restorer, and talented creator of mechanical time-keepers, dedicates his knowledge, which has been enriched by past and present teachings, to the benefit of the brand.

The Sandoz Family Foundation, who had tasked a young Michel Parmigiani to lead the restoration of their horological artifact collection, became interested in bringing Parmigiani's masterful work to the consumer market. In 1996, with the backing of the Sandoz Foundation, Parmigiani Fleurier was able to fit out its manufacturing workshops with the means to produce exceptionally high-quality goods. In less than 10 years, it achieved near complete vertical integration, and the industrial equipment deployed constitutes one of the rarest and most complete manufacturing workshops in Switzerland. The very essence of haute horology, such as attention to detail or the beauty of the embellishment of a simple or highly complicated movement, is the subject of great attention at Parmigiani Fleurier and is the reason for its international recognition.
